The christmas lights strung around my room tell me there is such a thing as magic; sometimes they keep me up even after I tell them that I know, and that I heard them. But maybe I haven't gotten the message yet. Maybe I should be more confident, though.. not let them cause me to doubt my cognitive powers. After all, how do third graders learn things if not from convincing, and intimidating their friends to help them convince the world of whatever it is they imagine? Apart from that, I'm getting over a cold, so when I sing tonight I will carry on the age old tradition of causing the show to go on, no matter what. And I'm convinced it will be fun!
The weather has finally turned warm here and Quinn the cat has taken to napping in the curved window seat. Ants have been exploring my room with a will, though I have no idea what could possibly be motivating them. Unless it's just some kind of frontier dream of somewhere finding a huge jar of honey or dead cicadas I normally have open for the odd guest to dip their paw into. Speaking of honey, I returned home last night from a gig at my new favorite place to play (and eat!), Proper Eats, some soft piece of detritus lodged between the sole of my foot and my flipflop, and I tried to tumble it out again, and I thought maybe I had, but as I unlocked the door, I realized with real concern that I hadn't. What began as a sharp sensation blossomed into a full throbbing swearfest as I abandoned all other preoccupations to assess the acute pangs on the sole of my foot. Just a couple of strange brown bits like whiskers or something, but then I refocused to a little maimed bee on the floor and I put it all together. Two misfortunate souls there in the entryway, each derailed from the pleasantness of the evening. Vegetarian though I am I did feel it was only right to dispatch the small beast so it wouldn't have to experience the loss of its faculties for too long. It was a beautiful little creature..
